OBJECT DESCRIPTION AND IMAGE SESSION

NGC 613 is a bright barred spiral galaxy located 67 millions light years away in the southern Constellation of Sculptor. The galaxy is gravitationally bounded to the Sculptor Group along with NGC 253; NGC 55; NGC 300 and NGC 247. The galaxy spans over 100 thousands light years across. The nucleus is a source of radio emission with the form of an inner ring with a radius of about 1,100 ly (350 pc) and a linear feature that is perhaps perpendicular to it. Observations suggest the presence of a super massive black hole at the core with a mass in the range of (1.6 - 9.6) x  10^7 times the mass of the Sun.

In the year 2016 Argentinean amateur Astronomer Victo Buso captured supernova SN2016gkg. The progenitor star was identified by the HST and its likely to have been a yellow super giant.
